The "Butterflies in Space" experiment by BioServe Space Technologies at the University of Colorado. This experiment was made possible through the support of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) and the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Larvae and technical assistance provided by Monarch Watch, Butterfly Pavilion, and Clearwater Butterfly. Sorry for the extended delay of video postings. If you have been following the pictures BioEd Online (highly recommended), you have noticed just how dirty and cluttered with droppings the habitats have become. Do to this, coupled with very little activity before the actual pupation, there was little to see from the videos. Unfortunately, much of the pupation video of the PLadies was interrupted by signal outages and video schedule conflicts with NASA. This was unavoidable, but we may get some footage from recorders that captured some of that video. However, this video isnt available for a few weeks. Not to worry, we will be compiling all the video and making some great short clips of major events after the experiment gets wrapped up. This video shows a PLady that emerged earlier in the day (during signal outage). It bumps its wings into another chrysalis on the wall and sends it flying. Check back in soon to see just how many butterflies emergeyou may be surprised.
