Most commercially available snorkels are specifically designed to fit snugly against the bodywork. These ship with gaskets and seals to prevent leaks. They’re also sized to bolt onto the bodywork where your standard air intake sits.
Do snorkels improve performance?
A snorkel is able to draw in cleaner, uncontaminated air because of its elevated position. Without this, your car takes in air that’s closer to the engine and therefore full of dust and grime. This cleaner air enhances engine performance and efficiency.
Is installing a snorkel hard?
While it is possible to customize a snorkel for vehicles where no ready-made one is available, it is an involved and costly process, and you may need to change your internal air-intake assembly to make one fit. Most commercially available snorkels are specifically designed to fit snugly against the bodywork.
Do snorkels increase HP?

What happens if water gets in your car snorkel?
A car’s snorkel acts pretty much just like the snorkel you’d use during an island vacation—it raises the point of entry for air higher and away from water. Just like your own lungs, your car’s engine can’t breath while it’s submerged… that and the catastrophic failure that water entering it can cause.

Is a stainless steel snorkel better?
A stainless steel snorkel will afford structural rigidity and robustness, and it will be corrosion-resistant and of one-piece construction, meaning it’ll be just as capable as plastic snorkels for desert and river crossings.
Does snorkel improve air flow?
Snorkels are designed to increase airflow to the engine with the ‘ram effect’ – using forward motion to push clean air into your engine. Not only that, but that forced air intake as opposed to the engine sucking air in means your engine is getting more of what it needs.
How do you connect a snorkel?
The snorkel can be attached by an included rubber or silicone ring that connects to the strap of the mask, or by a clip that is attached to the strap of the mask. Both of these mechanisms will require the same process for how to attach a snorkel to a mask.
