Can you replace a SAS drives with SATA?
You can generally use a Sata drive in a SAS topology. you need to ensure the cable from the Sata drive to the sas controller/expander does not exceed Sata line length limits (circa 90cm or so). Which includes passive backplane runs.
Can you mix SAS and SATA on same Dell server?
You cannot install SATA drives on the same SAs drive array but on a different array.

Only in case you wish to save the data on sas drives of cours. Otherwise (if data is no longer needed) you may simply remove the SAS HDDs and install the SSD while server in production.
Can I use SSD instead of SAS?
HDDs usually have more storage space, but SSDs are faster. Both SSD SAS drives and SSD SATA drives are faster than their HDD counterparts. They have the same characteristics though: SATA is still faster writing data, while SAS is faster at reading and writing data continuously.
Does SATA work in SAS?
Yes, SATA drives will work in SAS slots. The reverse is not true. If you have a 2.5″ SAS backplane then you can put 2.5″ SAS or SATA drives in the backplane, same for 3.5″.
Are server hard drives hot swappable?

Can I use SATA drives on a SAS controller?
SAS controllers enable the use of SATA drives to expand the storage capacity with cost-effectiveness. The use of SATA hard drives on SAS controllers is made possible by the fact that both share the same infrastructure and have similar features. SATA drives may be plugged into SAS controllers.
Do SAS to SATA adapters work?
