Will an expired 23andMe kit Work?
Sample collections kits purchased from our online store may be replaced free of charge if lost, damaged, or expired. Replacement kits can only be shipped to the same shipping country as on the original order. You can request a replacement kit by contacting Customer Care.

Why can’t 23andMe extract my DNA?
Firstly, the saliva sample may have been compromised, either by the collection tube leaking in transit or by a failure of the preservative solution to mix with the saliva after collection. Secondly, the saliva may not contain enough useful DNA (a point I’ll return to below), or the DNA may be too degraded to use.

Simply place the collection tube containing your sample in the plastic specimen bag, and then place the bag directly into the box. The plastic clamshell should be discarded. Remove the adhesive strip on the kit flap and seal the kit. Drop the package off at any US Postal Service mailbox.
