To support our membership in the most effective way, the National Society of Black Engineers has divided the local chapters into six (6) geographic regions. These regions cover the entirety of the United States and span the world to cover our international chapters.
What does the NSBE do?
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States. NSBE, founded in 1975, supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology.
Do you have to be black to be in NSBE?
Do I need to be African-American to join NSBE? No, NSBE is not only for African-American students! We welcome students from all races, sexes, and creeds. NSBE is a very diverse organization that has far reaching benefits such as: networking, scholarships and job/internship opportunities.

Why was NSBE created?
Established in 1975 at a national conference held at Purdue University, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) was created to increase the number of African American engineers.
What is NSBE Jr?
NSBE Jr., our main K-12 program, provides activities to help students discover firsthand how engineering and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development and teamwork.
Do you have to be an engineer to join NSBE?
Anyone with an interest in furthering NSBE’s mission is eligible for membership. Even if you do not have a background in engineering or other STEM fields, you can still become an Affiliate member.
How do I join NSBE?
In order to become a national member of NSBE, students must pay national dues. National dues are $15 and can be paid on the official NSBE website by visiting NSBEConnect (https://connect.nsbe.org/Login.aspx).
Is NSBE membership free?
Membership Dues Membership fee is $50 annually. There may be additional chapter and regional dues you have to pay to be considered a fully active member. If you choose not to be affiliated with a chapter in your local area, you will be considered a member “At-Large,” classified by your geographical region.

NSBE has more than 30,000 members worldwide, 18 regional conferences, an annual international conference, an annual national convention, and offers multiple scholarships. NSBE also represents 310 collegiate student chapters, 99 pre-college programs, and 88 professional chapters with their 6,000 technical members.
