Where should your water meter be?
You’ll usually find your water meter under the kitchen sink where your water supply comes into your home. It could also be in an underground box in the garden, or the footpath outside your property (look for a small round plastic lid).
How much clearance do you need around a water meter?
(A) A minimum one-foot (12-inch) clearance around the edge of the meter box and a three-foot (36-inch) clearance above the meter box are required.
Can I change the location of my water meter?
If your water meter is inside your home, and you want to move it to another position inside your home, you can either ask us to move it, or arrange for a water industry approved plumber to move it for you. If your water meter is outside, and you want to move it inside, the work must be done by United Utilities.
Where are water meters usually located Australia?

Can you install a water meter vertically?

Can a plumber remove a water meter?
You can then hire a trustworthy, qualified plumber to carry out the work. Please be aware that if your meter supplies more than one property, there may be charges to move that meter.
Can I come off a water meter?
You must not remove it or instruct anyone else to remove it for you under any circumstances. It is a contravention of the Water Act (as stated in section 175 of the Water Industry Act 1991) and can be a criminal offence to interfere with, wilfully damage or remove the meter.
Where is my water meter NSW?

How do I know if my property has a water meter?
You can check if you’re on a water meter by referring to your latest bill. If you see a section on the second page showing a meter serial number and meter reads then you’re on a meter. Internal meters are usually located in the kitchen, airing cupboard or bathroom.
Can I refuse a water meter UK?
The company can refuse your request to install a meter if it would be impractical or too expensive to do so (see page 15). The company will choose where to put the meter. You can ask for it to be installed in a different place, but you may be required to pay the difference in costs.
Can flats have water meters?
For each flat that will be separately occupied, if it requires its own water account and can be sold off as a self contained flat, it will need its own water meter and service pipe.
How does water system work in flats?
The freshwater system uses pressure to move water to where it’s needed in the building. The wastewater system doesn’t need pressure, since wastewater moves down and out of the building. The drainage pipes always aim downward to let wastewater flow through.
What is a meter pit?
What is a meter pit and who does it belong to? There is a meter pit located somewhere in your yard, generally in the front part of the yard, but it can be anywhere. Its purpose is to hold and protect the water meter. The water meter measures the water used inside your home.
Can I ask for my water meter to be removed?
Yes you can. If you change your mind before the meter is installed, contact your company immediately to cancel your request. If your meter has already been installed, the company will not remove it.
Can I refuse to have a water meter?
You have the right to request a meter. This should be free of charge unless changes to your plumbing are required. Your water company should install the meter within three months of your request.
