It is pink salmon fishing season in the Lower Mainland! The Tidal Fraser River is currently open to pink salmon fishing until September 18th. Chilliwack/Vedder, Harrison and Stave River are open to pink salmon fishing until September 30th.

Can you fish the Vedder Canal?
It can be fished on both the north and south side of the river. There is more room to fish on the south side of the river.
What size hook is best for steelhead?
The best hook size for steelhead and my go-to size for steelhead hooks is size 8 or size 10 in most water clarity. In super clear water or when using single eggs or very small baits, I will drop down to a size 12 and a size 14 wide gap hook that is thick enough to not bend on big steelhead.
Is it hard to catch steelhead?
Steelhead are a tough fish to catch. You can go years without getting one, even if you put in a good amount of time on the water. The most important thing is to try often, and persevere. If you find fish and you can’t get them to bite, change everything up in your approach.

It’s not a fantastic trout river to be honest. Bulls are worth a try though. Often people fish the Vedder in the late spring and summer months, and they think they’re catching resident rainbows. They’re almost always catching steelhead smolts.
