How do you get accepted into Shad?
Applicants are assessed on several factors highlighting their unique talents and contributions. Factors such as academic excellence, extracurricular involvement (i.e. volunteerism, part-time work, family care responsibilities), creativity, innovation and commitment to making the world a better place.
How long is the Shad program?
Shad is a month-long program for grade 10 & 11s. Pan-Canadian classrooms with university level STEAM and entrepreneurship content and access to mentors.
Is Shad online this year?
Will any online programs run this year? No, Shad Canada will only be offering an in-person program in 2022.
How many Shad campuses are there?
We are proud to partner with 21 carefully-selected Canadian universities to deliver the Shad program.
Is it hard to get into SHAD?
There is a rigorous application process, which goes in-depth into both the students’ academics and extra-curriculars. In 2020, over 2,400 students applied. Shad normally runs for four weeks in July. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SHAD has been hosted online during the summer of 2020 and the summer of 2021.
What grades do you need to get into SHAD?

Can I use the SHAD program for elective credit?
Shad can be used as an elective credit for participants from Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan . The Shad experience can also qualify for the creativity aspect of the International Baccalaureate Credit. Is the Shad program fee tax deductible?
Does diversity matter at Shad?
We know diversity matters. at Shad. At Shad students collaborate and build meaningful relationships outside of their home province. Each campus, and each design team, has a mix of rural and urban participants from diverse economic backgrounds. Students learn the value of their own perspective and the differing perspectives of those around them.
