Are Rubbermaid Configurations and Closetmaid interchangeable?
Closetmaid shelf supports and shelves will fit on the Rubbermaid or Elfa vertical hangers and vice versa. If money is not a concern then buy the Elfa, built like a tank will last forever and looks better than the others with the right accessories.

How far apart should brackets be for a shelf?

For light to medium loads, shelving brackets should be spaced no more than 24 inches apart. For longer wire shelving, attach a bracket at least every 48 inches. For heavier loads, increase the size of your brackets and decrease the space between them.
How many pounds can wire shelves hold?
Typically, wire shelving maxes out at around 80 pounds. However, being made of steel, the tough, dependable EZ Shelf can hold up to 200 pounds (without securing to studs in 1/2” drywall) and the EZ Shelf heavy-duty garage shelving can handle even more—a whopping 250 pounds.
How high should you mount Rubbermaid FastTrack?
You’ll also need a level to do the job right. Figure out what height you want to install the rail and make a mark there. Rubbermaid recommends 4′ or 7’3”, but I installed mine at 6′ after experimenting with the tools I planned on hanging. Install the rack with one screw, check the level, and install the next.
Is Elfa compatible with Rubbermaid?
The Elfa fascia will not fit on the Rubbermaid or Closetmaid shelves. It’s solid birch that is available in natural, walnut, or white, and the examples hanging in the Container Store display were all very worn on the edges (betraying the “solid wood” look).
Can you reuse Rubbermaid wire shelves?
After uninstalling the shelves, you can re-install the wire shelf system in another closet or storage space. If Closetmaid shelf brackets are removed carefully they will be undamaged and ready for use elsewhere.
