How good are ortofon cartridges?
The Ortofon 2M Red is certainly a very entertaining cartridge, providing a big, solid, spacious sound with good detail and excellent dynamics. The delivery is crisp and punchy across the entire frequency range, with a particularly nicely textured bass, and can be very impressive on well-recorded material.
Can a scratched record damage a stylus?
The short answer is usually a “no.” The needle is made of a hard precious stone (usually diamond or sapphire), and the records are made of plastic. The stones styli are made of are far harder than plastic, so it would be very difficult for a scratch to physically break or alter the shape of a stylus.

Is the Ortofon 2m blue stylus compatible with project debut carbon?
I purchased a Project Debut Carbon last year with the default Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. After a few months and much review reading, I decided to buy a 2M Blue stylus from Amazon, which is compatible with the Red cartridge. There was a noticeable but moderate improvement in sound, and the more I used the cartridge the better it sounded.
