What is Alconite?
ALCONITE is a special type of ceramic that offers 80% greater compression strength and is 20% lighter than Aluminum Oxide. Diamond polished to superb smoothness, ALCONITE boasts super-low abrasion on any line type.
Is Alconite aluminum an oxide?
Alconite is a form of aluminum oxide, but more durable than the aluminum oxide found on cheaper rods.
What are SiC rod guides?
What are SIC Guides? Today, Silicon carbide, referred to as SiC, and titanium carbide are considered the best materials for fishing rod guides. Friction and heat are reduced to a bare minimum with these advanced ceramic ring guides. Less friction translates into longer casts.
Are Alconite guides good for braid?
They are NOT rated for braid.
How many rings should a fishing rod have?
As a rule of thumb you will need one ring for every foot of rod plus a tip ring. More rings may help the line follow the bend more closely, but the extra weight can reduce the efficiency and performance of the finished rod.
Are stainless steel guides OK for braid?
Stainless steel is soft. All of the rods on my boat are Ugly Stik Bigwater rods and I run 30# braid on all of them including 6 downrigger rods that see several 100 hours of use every year and I have seen zero wear on any of the guides. Stainless won’t hold up to braid if you apply a lot of pressure, especially the tip.
Can you use braid with aluminum oxide guides?
Aluminum oxide rings developed 40 years ago are fine today, even for braided polyethylene line. Assuming the frames are stainless steel, a thorough freshwater rinse and towel-dry should stave off corrosion for many seasons.
What is Fuji concept o?
Fuji’s new proprietary “Deep-Pressed” Frame technology is incorporated in the LN and MN ‘New Guide’ Concept frames for 360-degree protection against everyday bumps and dings that can cause inferior guides to fail. Fuji’s new ‘O’ Concept Guides combine deep pressed guides with their largest selling ring, the ‘O’ ring.
What is the difference between SIC and SS/alconite?
Re: Fuji Guides: SiC or Alconite? If you are really concerned about weight, then go micros. In that case, the SS/Alconite is just a few grains heavier than the Ti/SiC and is much lighter than any normally sized TiSiC guide…and it gives you more endurance.
Is there a difference between tisic and alconite?
In that case, the SS/Alconite is just a few grains heavier than the Ti/SiC and is much lighter than any normally sized TiSiC guide…and it gives you more endurance. – I agree… rule number one is to use the lightest guide that will do the job. This usually means the smallest ring. Definitely consider micro guides.
What is the difference between Fuji guides sic and alconite?
In that case, the SS/Alconite is just a few grains heavier than the Ti/SiC and is much lighter than any normally sized TiSiC guide…and it gives you more endurance. Re: Fuji Guides: SiC or Alconite?
How much heavier is stainless alconite than titanium framed sic?
In identical frames… stainless Alconite will weigh X. Stainless SiC will weigh 15% less than X. And titanium framed SiC will weigh 30% less than X. So, given that, I’d expect titanium framed Alconite to be 15% heavier than titanium framed SiC. In my opinion, the titanium framed SiC is the best guide you can get.
