What is WonderMASK?

What is WonderMASK?

WonderMASK® PX is a temporary, peelable, latex solder mask designed to dry in half the time of standard peelable solder masks. It is hand applied and can withstand fluxing, wave soldering and cleaning operations.

What can be used as solder mask?

Epoxy liquid solder masks The most cost-effective option among solder masks is epoxy. It is a polymer that is silkscreened on the PCB. Silkscreening refers to a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support ink-blocking patterns. The mesh enables the open areas to be identified for the process of ink transfer.

What does a solder mask do?

The solder mask is your board’s primary protection against corrosion and oxidation. It impacts PCB quality by guarding against performance degradation and the shortening of the device’s normal operational lifetime that may occur without solder mask protection.

What is peelable solder mask?

A peelable soldermask is screen printed and used in order to protect selected solder holes against plugging during mass soldering. A peelable soldermask can also protect carbon elements and gold plated contacts during mass soldering. More information can be found in our PCB Design Guidelines – Peel-off Mask.

Why is solder mask green?

Did you know that the vast majority of PCB’s are green? But, why are printed circuit boards green? It is due to the solder mask, which protects the copper circuits printed on the fibre glass core to prevent short circuits, soldering errors, etc. The colour of the solder mask gives the board its appearance.

What material is solder mask made of?

The most commonly used material is epoxy liquid material. It had minimal cost and was made of polymer-type material, which is thermal resistant, and it often requires curing thermally. The liquid photo-imageable solder mask materials are also sprayed or silk-screened like epoxy screens.

How do I remove a peelable solder mask?

Peelable mask is usually removed by hand or with tweezers.

How do you store solder mask?

Refrigeration certainly help extend the shelf life of most one component polymerising resins, but some are very moisture sensitive, so if you can refrigerate them, its advisable to put them in a well sealed container with a generously sized desiccant sachet and replace or regenerate it as nessercery (depending on …

How do you remove solder mask?

There are several safe and reliable ways to remove solder mask from the circuit board surface. Grinding and scraping, milling, micro blasting, and chemical stripping are the most common. They all have advantages and disadvantages and we’ll review them in this feature.

What are 3 common types of solder mask application?

Here are the four PCB solder mask types: Liquid epoxy solder mask. Liquid photoimageable solder mask (LPSM) Dry Film Solder Mask (DFSM)

What is difference between solder mask and solder paste?

Solder mask is used for solder mask ink, while solder paste is used for paste. 4. Solder mask is applied as fabricating your circuit board, however, solder paste is used for SMT PCB assembly.

Is solder mask toxic?

Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. Irritating to mouth, throat and stomach.

Can solder mask be removed?

Does solder mask expire?

Also, I read somewhere that these solder masks have a shelf life (1-2 years). So, we can check the manufacturing date for expiry. Or alternately, you can try baking the PCB in the sun.

How long does UV solder mask take to cure?

Place it all in direct sunlight for about 30 minutes. Now the UV light should have hardened all but the areas protected by the mask, take it inside and remove the mask and lightly scrub the pads with turps using a toothbrush. The non exposed areas should wash away.

Does acetone remove solder mask?

Nail polish remover (acetone or some other ketone) works. Most soldermask is chemically very similar to nail polish, just stickier.

What is solder mask made of?

Solder mask, solder stop mask or solder resist is a thin lacquer-like layer of polymer that is usually applied to the copper traces of a printed circuit board (PCB) for protection against oxidation and to prevent solder bridges from forming between closely spaced solder pads.

How thick should solder mask be?

The typical solder resist thickness (perpendicular to the board) is at least 0.8 mils. Solder mask will be thinner near the edges of traces and can reach as thin as 0.3 mils or less. In general, you’ll want about 0.5 mils of solder mask over your traces.
