What size deck do most skaters ride?
Most professional street skaters will ride decks that range from 8″ to 8.5″. This range seems to be the most common across the many different professional skaters in the world. This size skateboard provides the stability that they need but is also small enough for them to control and flip.
Is 8.5 A good deck size?
If you wear shoes 9.5 or larger, we recommend getting a deck between 8.0 and 8.5 inches. In general, skaters who like flip tricks, manuals, ledges, flat bars and technical tricks usually prefer boards on the narrower side of the spectrum (7.75 – 8.25 inches).

Is a 8.38 deck too big?
For all-around skating, a width between 8.0″ and 8.38″ should work out for you. Almost all skate deck brands will have many options in this size range. Note to Beginners: If you are completely new to skateboarding and are unsure what style of riding you may be attracted to, go with a deck size between 7.75″ and 8.38″.
Should I ride a 8.5 skateboard?
Anything between 8.0 and 8.25 is a good size for street skating. Still, there are lots of skaters that love to shred the streets on an 8.5″ and are killing it (Ben Degros for example). I know I’m not making it easier for you but as long as you go for an 8.0, 8.125, or an 8.25″ you can’t go wrong.
What size deck should I build?
Most builders suggest that your deck should be no larger than 20 percent of the house’s* square footage. This is so that the deck does not overwhelm a home visually. This, of course, is up to you. If you feel you need a larger deck that takes up more of your yard space, feel free!
