What is a double first base for?
Serving Albuquerque since 1958. New to Mile High Little League for 2017 is the use of the “Double First Base.” The use of this base is a safety measure intended to prevent collisions between the batter-runner and the first baseman.
Can you slide feet first into first base in Little League?
No. Little League does not have a “Must Slide” rule for a runner sliding into home or any other base. However, any runner is out when the runner does not slide or attempt to get around a fielder who has the ball and is waiting to make the tag.
Are you allowed to slide first base?
Yes, sliding is allowed on first base, but it is not recommended since a runner is allowed to overrun the base, which is faster. When sliding to first base, the runner is allowed to leave the running lane within a reasonable distance for the purpose of getting on base.

A safety bag is an orange base that is connected to the standard white bag at first base. The first baseman uses the white bag inside the foul line and the baserunner uses the orange bag outside the foul line to minimize collisions. If runners are taking extra bases on a hit, they use the inside base.
Can you dive to first?
Usually, runners dive into first as opposed to sliding feet first. A head-first dive may give a runner greater body control, but he’s still subject to the same rules as if there had been no slide. Runners who don’t follow the rules will get called out.
