What is mepilex transfer used for?
Mepilex Transfer is designed for a wide range of exuding wounds, and difficult-to-dress wounds. It can also be used as a protective layer on non-exuding wounds and/or large areas of fragile skin. Mepilex Transfer draws exudate from the wound, moving it to a secondary absorbent pad, such as Mextra® Superabsorbent.

Mepilex® Transfer is a soft silicone exudate transfer dressing intended for a wide range of exuding wounds. It can also be used as protection of compromised and/or fragile skin. Mepilex Transfer efficiently transfers exudate away from the wound thereby minimising the risk of maceration 1 2 3 .
What is mepilex AG used for?
Mepilex Ag Mepilex® Ag is our versatile antimicrobial foam dressing – for when you need an antimicrobial action to reduce bioburden in the wound. It’s designed for low to medium exuding burns and wounds. So you can use it to treat leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and partial thickness burns.
How long does mepilex transfer last?
Mepilex® Transfer can be used under compression. Note: Mepilex® Transfer can remain in place for up to 7 days as indicated by wound condition. The absorbent cover dressing may be changed more frequently if required.
How do you use mepilex?
Application
- Gently clean the wound with a mild soap making sure all the injured skin is removed.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Cut the Mepilex® Ag to cover the wound including an additional inch to overlap onto the skin surrounding the wound.
- Cover the pad with dry gauze.
- Wrap with Kerlix™ wrap or a Conform® stretch bandage.
Is Mepilex good for open wounds?
Burn wound Mepilex AG is a soft silicone foam dressing used to cover open wounds. There is silver in the dressing that helps prevent infection. The dressing will absorb drainage and keep the wound clean. This will help with healing.
Can you shower with mepilex dressing?
The dressing is also water resistant to allow the patients to shower. Mepilex® Border Flex may be left in place up to 7 days, depending on the condition of the wound and surrounding skin, or as indicated by accepted clinical practice.
When do you remove mepilex dressing?
You can leave Mepilex Border Post-Op in place for up to seven days, depending on the condition of your patient’s wound and the surrounding skin; or as indicated by your organizational procedures or accepted clinical practice.
Is it better to keep a wound moist or dry?
A: Airing out most wounds isn’t beneficial because wounds need moisture to heal. Leaving a wound uncovered may dry out new surface cells, which can increase pain or slow the healing process. Most wound treatments or coverings promote a moist — but not overly wet — wound surface.
How do you know if a wound is too moist?
Maceration occurs when skin has been exposed to moisture for too long. A telltale sign of maceration is skin that looks soggy, feels soft, or appears whiter than usual. There may be a white ring around the wound in wounds that are too moist or have exposure to too much drainage.
Does the sticky side of Mepilex Ag go on the wound?
Place a new piece of Mepilex AG onto the wound. The sticky side should be to the wound. It is important to have about 1 to 2 inches of the dressing on the non-burned skin surrounding the wound. This allows the dressing to stay in place better.
