Do I need a Expodisc?
The Expodisc is helpful because it integrates light sources from all angles, just like an incident light meter. Slight variations of angle won’t affect the color balance as it will with a card. That’s why I use an Expodisc. It’s easier to carry and more durable than a white card.

How much does expodisc cost?
I rarely use my Expodisc. The Expodisc isn’t cheap. It’s about $120 for the standard 77mm size hereor here. Smaller ones are cheaper, but not if you upgrade later to a professional lens and have to buy the 77mm size anyway. Most pro lenses are 77mm. The 58mm Expodisc is about $80.
What size expodisc do I Need?
Just get the right size. More intelligently, you only need one Expodisc for every size lens. Get the biggest size you plan to be using in the future, which is probably 77mm. It works great held over a smaller lens.
Can I use an on-camera flash with the expodisc?
On-Camera Flash (Direct Flash). We do not recommend setting a custom white balance with the ExpoDisc when directly lighting subjects with on-camera flash. Doing so may create an undesirable colorcast by incorporating back-lighting or side-lighting.
