It may not have been obvious in 1876, but Achille Savinelli’s commitment to briar pipes would prove to be visionary. He soon began designing his own pipes (different from the styling we associate with Savinelli today) and arranged their manufacture by local pipemakers in the Varese district of north-west Italy.

In 1881 Achille Savinelli Sr. exhibited at the Esposizione Industriale Italiana (Italian Industrial Exposition), the precursor to today’s Milan Fair. His initiative demonstrated an entrepreneurial instinct that clearly runs in the family, even today.
